Study on the timing of moving people with dementia into care homes is now recruiting

Lakshini Mendis

A new research study on different factors that contribute to the decision on when (if any) might be the best or ‚Äúoptimal time‚Äù for people with dementia to move into a care home is currently looking for professionals working with people with dementia in England to complete a short, online survey.

This study, which is being conducted at the Social Care Workforce Research Unit at King’s College London, is important because many people with dementia and their carers are unsure if and when there is a ‘right’ time to move to a care home. The findings from this study will provide ideas about decision-making based on real life experiences and support practitioners  working with people with dementia and their carers in advisory capacities when faced with these questions. The researchers also aim to draw out clear practice messages that are relevant and accesible to social care practioners, care home managers, people with dementia, and carers so they can help other people in similar situations.

The study is open to professionals working in day centres, hospitals, or in care homes. The research team is currently looking for paid workers and mangers (e.g., home care workers, nurses, occupational therapists, GPs, social workers, or Admiral nurses) who are working with people with dementia in England to complete a short, online survey. The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
