Namaste Care Intervention UK: Delivering Excellent Care Every Day for People Living with Advanced Dementia

The Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester is looking for people in care home settings working with people with dementia, who have experience or interest in ‚ÄúNamaste Care‚Äù – a care approach for people living with advanced dementia in long term care settings. The Association would like volunteers to take part in a short online survey as part of a research project funded by the Alzheimer’s Society. This is to gather information about how “Namaste Care” is currently practiced in the UK.

Two leading clinicians offer an insight into the work of the care homes vanguards – Dan Cowie and Lesley Bainbridge

The national new care models programme brings together local health and care systems as vanguards to radically redesign care for the local populations they serve. As part of this work, NHS England has set out details of the framework – what good looks like – for enhanced health in care homes. A lead nurse and a GP from the Gateshead Care Home Project vanguard provide an insight into their work and the role they play in this new model of care.

Invitation for University of Worcester accredited double module “Advanced Practice in delivering Person-Centred Dementia Care”

The University of Worcester is inviting applicants to their accredited double module “Advanced Practice in delivering Person-Centred Dementia Care”. This masters-level module is aimed at staff who have responsibility for practice development in or with care homes and extra care housing. This is the first ever course to train professionals to deliver the Focused Intervention Training and Support (FITS) programme which is a proven way of effectively delivering psycho-social care in care homes and supported housing in response to complex needs and behaviours.

ENRICH Yorkshire and Humber team shortlisted for a Nursing Times Award

The Yorkshire and Humber ENRICH team have been shortlisted for a Nursing Times Award in the Clinical Research Nursing category for their work with care homes in the region. The award shortlisting recognises their work in improving standards of research delivery in care homes, enhancing the experiences of residents and staff taking part in research and increasing awareness of care home research.

6th Nottingham ENRICH Forum

The 6th Nottingham ENRICH Forum took place on 22 July 2016, with the theme of “Delivering High Quality Care in Care Homes”. The Forum event was chaired by Adam Gordon, Clinical Associate Professor in Medicine of Older People, University of Nottingham. Topics included work, funded by the East Midlands Academic Health Sciences Network Patient Safety Collaborative, to benchmark and report the prevalence of common care problems in UK care homes using internationally validated measures.

Yorkshire and Humber ENRICH Research Advisory Group

The Yorkshire and Humber ENRICH team have recently set up a Research Advisory Group to enhance patient and public involvement in the development of research projects. The group consists of older people from a range of backgrounds who live at a care home and assisted living facility in York. To date, the group have met twice and have already provided valuable feedback for PhD student projects. In addition, members of the group have also taken part in a focus group for researchers from the University of Sheffield who are developing a funding bid for a study looking at interventions to reduce social isolation and loneliness in care homes. They are also helping us pilot our online research training course for care home staff – URiCH (Understanding Research in Care Homes).
